Dreamer Schedule for the 2001 season
NOOD - 5/4/28/00 -5/6/01
St Michaels Race 5/26/01
Race Back form St. Michaels 5/27/01
It is with sincere sadness that the Dreamer team has ended and the boat will be sold. The boat will be going to Toronto and be sailed on the great lakes. I wish the new owners much success and happiness with a truly wonderful boat. Jodi and I have since moved to St Louis where we will continue to race and sail in different venues around the country. I would like to thank my Crew who have stood by Jodi and I, and were the best crew that I have ever had the privilege to sail with.. I believe we all learned lot from participating and sailing Dreamer that we will keep with us for the rest of our lives. The amount of emotions is unbelievable as I write this farwell message to my friends and crew of Dreamer. As I think back to all of the events that we sailed and the miles that we raced from Block Island race week, Bermuda, The countless Week end races (and parties) on the bay and collecting some silver along the way it would never have been possible with out the hours of dedication that the following individuals put into the Dreamer program.
List of Dreamer crew
Jodi MacGibbon - To be able to sail with my best friend and Spouse was truly one of the greatest experiences of my life. Jodi could do every position on the boat and always brought a gentle touch to the program. She was our tactician on the boat and as in life has always pointed me in the right direction. She let me indulge myself in this crazy sport of sailing and was always there to support the program. She also provided the lunches for the boat and made sure that everyone was having a good time, and was taken care of. I do seem to remember many years ago Jodi got the first gun on Dreamer in a Wednesday night race in Annapolis. I can honestly say that when Dreamer left the dock with out her it was never the same as when she was aboard. I look forward to sailing with Jodi the rest of my life and hopefully teaching our Son or Daughter to sail as well. Jodi's nick name on the boat was "DEN MOM" because she took care of our kids we called the crew.
Cabell "Earl" Potts. What can I say - With out Earl we would have never reached the success that we did. He is truly a great friend , confidant and one hell of a sailor. Jodi and I will always be in his debt for giving of himself to make the program what it was. He is one of the finest sail trimmers on the bay and can call a crossing better than any body I know. Many a cold winter days Earl and I sat on the boat sweeping snow from the decks scheming what we would do for the up coming season. Well it was a good reason to drink a couple of Rums in the middle of winter as well. Good luck with your fishing expeditions and watch out for the Rum Front on the horizon.
Scott " I'm a Bowman" Gitchell. Scott worked the pointy end of the boat for us. He was always their for the Program and is by far the best Bowman I have ever sailed with. Scott we wish you much success with your new adventures and we know that you will do well. If not for you up there on the Bow we would never have been able to raise the bar and achieve the success that we did. Scott also took care of our winches and some times liked to make repairs at the starting line. Scott tore apart the winches at the start of the North Americans as we started on Port . Scott could always count on getting a smile from me as we closed the leeward mark " how close can we go with the kite up." Jodi and I thank you for what you have done for the boat and helping us keep racing this year.
Sue Hageman. Sue was our Pitt person and was recruited heavily from one of the other boats that we sailed against called Cheers. Sue was always happy doing what ever we asked and did a great job of helping out in any way possible. Sue I hope this will help your Golf Game now that we wont be sailing as much. Look forward to sailing to the Caribbean with you in the Fall. Jodi and I thank you for your humor and upbeat personality on the boat.
Carl Gitchell - The best technical sailor I have ever seen. Carl was the most focused on the boat and never missed a beat. I am sorry we did not have more time to sail together as the Army keeps him moving around. Good luck to you and scotty on the J/105.
Mark Bohn - Mark was our utility infielder on the boat. He could do every job and pitched in when we needed him. He is a great Sailor with many talents and is a true asset on any boat he will sail on. Mark did bow for us for a year and worked Pitt, Mast, Trim, Main ect... Mark could always be counted on and I would sail any where with him across any ocean. I can still see him changing sails in enormous waves going to Bermuda. The waves were continuing to pound on top of him as he changed the sail causing his auto inflate to inflate and he never missed a beat. Without Dreamer sailing Marks Golf game is sure to improve!!
Mike Murphy "Murph". We had the Pleasure to Sail with Murph and his wife Kathy "Murphette" . They are truly some of the best folks you could have on the boat. Murph was primarily the back end of the boat type guy and could be counted on really lending a hand in the heavy stuff. Murph liked to help with Navigation and at times I think I made him a little nervous sailing the shoals on the eastern shore in the middle of the night doing 15 knots with the kite up. I appreciate Murphs guidance on how to deal with crew situations and basically how to build a team and getting them to work together. Thank you for all your advise and the lessons that I have learned and will take with me through the rest of my life.
Kathy Murphy "Murphette" Murphette was a Joy to have on the boat and was always there to give a smile and joke. She is an excellent sailor that really made a difference for us in the ability to improve our boat handling skills. She is one of the finest people I have met. Kathy has a huge capacity to enjoy life that rubs off on everyone around her. I wish you guys much success with your boat and I hope you will give me a call if you ever need some crew.
Fred "Baby Hughy" Fred we missed having you on the boat the last two Seasons and every time we had heavy air some one would say to bad we do not have Fred. Thank you for all you did for the program and we wish you much success in the future with your endeavors. Fred was incredible at the mast or in the cockpit and could get any job done faster that was thought imaginable.
Will Keyworth. Will was the first owner of the Boat when it was named Moonbeam. Will I hope we made you proud with the boat. It was Will who came out to sail with us when we were just beginning to learn the ropes of how to sail the boat and raised the bar for us. He taught us so many things about sailing and we are all better sailors for his time and effort he put into our program. Will is a great person to sail with and one of the best people I know. Jodi and I wish you continued success with your sailing endeavors and hope that we will have the privilege to sail with you again.
Steve Dustin Steve is a great guy to have on a boat to wash the leeward side of the rail in a ocean crossing. Steve and I have sailed many of open ocean miles together and is truly a great person to have on your crew. He gave of himself many times knowing he could not make the race but helped with deliveries and filled in where we needed some experience. Steve is a great friend and a better sailor than a duck hunter. Steve could always be counted on for a kind word and a Dark and Stormy when things looked ugly. I am looking forward to sailing with you in the future.
The Sags and the AUNT JEAN crew. Jodi and I thank you guys for all of your support and words of encouragement. You guys really helped pick us up when we were down and frustrated. It was always fun sailing against and way to many times behind you. You are a class program and I hope that our tacks will cross again on the race course.
Dave Scheidt - Dave sailed on most of our big offshore races. Thanks for your help and insight into sailing and navigation. I have become a much better sailor having sailed with and against you over the past 12 years. Good luck to you and the Maggie crew in your future endeavors." GO Grey Boats"
There are many others that sailed with us over the years and if I have failed to mention there name here please accept my apologies. your contributions were appreciated .
We all came together with a common interest to sail in a competitive environment and came away as good friends.
Jodi and I will cherish the times we spent together on Dreamer. I look forward to seeing you all in the future and hope we will have the chance to sail together again . We wish each of you much success in your sailing pursuits and I know that the sailing community will be enriched from your talent.
